About Us:

House museum whose main mission is its connection as the last standing building of the Fishkill Supply Depot, 1776-1781.   Other mission of FHS is the collection and preservation of the Town and Village of Fishkill - secondary is the collection and preservation of the Dutch heritage of the Fishkills especially in relation to the Van Wyck family.

The FHS offers guided tours of the Van Wyck Homestead Museum for the general public and has special hands-on programs for school children relating to NYS cirriculum. The museum is open weekends, 1 - 4 PM in season June 1 - October 31 AND gladly by appointment. Admissionis by donation. FHS co-ordinates tours with other historic sites.

The FHS was founded in 1962 and had "fought" valiently" to save the Van Wyck Homestead from demolition as it was in the way, so to speak, of I 84. The homestead was acquired in 1971 from the Snook family who essentially donated the building the FHS.

What We Offier:

The society maintains a local history/genealogical library with an excellent selection of material relative to the Revolutionary War.  It is available to all for research.  Books are circulated on loan to members of FHS.

The FHS Gift Shop has a variety of items for sale including books on local history - two re: the history of Fishkill.

We specialized in:

Revolutionary War, Dutch American culture and local history.

Calendar of events:

• Monthly meetings with talks on history and subjects relative to the area.
• Classes in crafts and history for children.
• Revolutionary War reading circle for fun and discovery.
• Spinning & Weaving - 1st Sunday of the month. All welcomed.
• Fourth of July picnic after the reading of the Declaration of Independence.
• FHS - VWHM Craft Boutique - a fund raiser on the weekend immediately after Thanksgiving featuring unique crafts and homestyle lunch in the 1732 kitchen..
• Holiday Open House - celebrating the various holidays around December - January with emphasis on childrens' activities.
